The ancient walls of Sorrento were built in XVI century in order to defend the city from the saracen attacks and invasion. Anyway, Sorrento had a defense system even before XVI century, in fact the first evidence of walls points to 400 b.c, in the pre-roman era and were used by roman and greeks too.
This ancient ruins represents a must-visit for everyone in love with history and archeological areas, because they are kinda rare in the southern Italy and a lot of objects, mosaics or bones were found in the excavations in 1921.
To reach the entrance of the walls from the main Piazza Tasso you just have to walk through Corso Italia and then you’ll find Via Serale, where you’ll fine the amazing Bastione di Parsano, wich is the entrance to the walls.
Visits are free and goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
