Moving around Sorrento and Amalfi Coast

The coast is served by public and private transport, making it easy to get around between its various towns.

The Amalfi Coast is criss-crossed by a single road, considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular in the world, and the only one that connects all the towns on the coast: State Route 163, also known as the Amalfitana. This road, which winds for some fifty kilometers and is famous for its incomparable views, has only one lane in each direction, is also quite narrow and has many hairpin bends that can be difficult to negotiate for less experienced motorists.

The best option we recommend for getting around the Amalfi Coast is to take advantage of transport by sea, by ferry or hydrofoil. No stress about driving, short journey times and another way to admire the towns from the sea.

Getting around Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast by scooter is a great solution for those who prefer to travel by land. Obviously, you need to know how to move in traffic and not have any luggage (or family) with you. Otherwise, getting around the Amalfi Coast by car is a good solution if you’re not very familiar with scooters, or if you’re going to sleep in different places along the coast, on the other hand you’ll have more trouble finding parking.

The third way to avoid the stress of driving is to use Sita Sud’s public transport system. This is not the best solution in high season, as the buses are often full and (alas) don’t always keep to the timetable.

Moving around Sorrento is a breeze, thanks to its well-connected transportation system that allows visitors to explore this beautiful coastal town with ease. Whether you prefer to wander through its charming streets on foot or take advantage of the efficient public transportation options, Sorrento offers a convenient and enjoyable experience for travelers.

The town itself is compact and easily navigable, making it perfect for leisurely strolls to discover hidden gems, such as local shops, quaint cafes, and historic landmarks. Additionally, buses and trains provide convenient access to nearby attractions, including the mesmerizing Amalfi Coast, the captivating island of Capri, and the historic ruins of Pompeii. So, whether you’re seeking to soak up the sun on Sorrento’s beautiful beaches or embark on a day trip to explore the wonders of the surrounding area, moving around Sorrento is your gateway to an unforgettable Italian adventure.
