Where to sleep in Amalfi

Amalfi is the heart of this part of the Campania region’s coastline and is certainly one of the best places to stay on the Amalfi Coast.

It’s the largest town on the coast and one of the most interesting from a historical point of view: after all, Amalfi was one of the maritime republics and still has some interesting monuments to visit. Amalfi is a good choice to stay in if you want to experience the typical atmosphere of the Amalfi Coast, if you’re interested in cultural visits, if you want to have the beaches nearby and if in the evening you want to stroll around in lively surroundings.

Hotel prices in Amalfi vary according to the category and exposure of the rooms. Many hotels offer special packages, some with dinner, others with parking (don’t forget that parking is a luxury in Amalfi), while others organize excursions such as boat trips or lemons tours.

Where to sleep

Accommodations in Amalfi are located both in the center, rather crowded and chaotic, and in the suburbs quieter and more relaxing areas.

There’s a wide range of accommodation on offer, from 3-star to super-luxury. Reception is the prerogative of Amalfi’s hoteliers, always ready to give the right answers to your questions.

Amalfi Center

Sleeping in the center of Amalfi certainly makes it easier to visit the most beautiful attractions, such as the Cathedral, the Paper Museum and the Arsenal.

Similarly, access to the beaches is easier because they’re close to the center, but on the other hand, during the high season, Amalfi’s center is quite chaotic, even late into the night.

You can find a list of the most beautiful hotels in the center of Amalfi on this page.

Where to sleep in Amalfi, Pogerola

Pogerola

Pogerola is a very quiet area, with pure air and lush nature, from which you can admire fantastic views of the sea and mountains.

We recommend Pogerola to people who like peace and quiet, good food, healthy air and romance. There are some very pleasant and relatively affordable bed and breakfasts and a good choice of pizzerias and restaurants.

There are three ways to reach Pogerola. The first is to use public transport; Sita Sud buses leave regularly from Pogerola, near the main square, and reach the Amalfi bus terminal, at the port and in the town center, in about 20 minutes. You can also use your own car.

In Pogerola, you can find parking without any particular difficulty, while in Amalfi you’ll probably have to pay for parking. The final option is to descend the 700 steps from Pogerola to Amalfi. The descent is pleasant, as the path is immersed in nature, between terraces of lemon trees and private gardens, sometimes in the shade of the vegetation.

Lone

This hillside hamlet is about 2 km from the center of Amalfi.

The area is very picturesque, but the road is quite narrow and there are no parking spaces (many are reserved for residents).

This area is recommended for people looking for a quiet place to stay, but who don’t want to stray too far from the center and beaches, which are within walking distance.

Pastena

The Pastena district is about 1.5 km from the center, and is also a picturesque, hilly area.

Like Lone, it’s not easy to park, but on the other hand, the neighborhood is very quiet at night.

Other neighborhoods in Amalfi include: Vettica (2.84 km from the center), Vettica Minore (2.87 km from the center), Tovere (4.10 km from the center), Acquarola (4.00 km from the center).
